Airy but with a touch of glamour

Budget Range : 1

Striped Curtains – A high pile rug  – Cornicing – To keep the existing furniture.

I have recently completed an Interior Design Project for a client in MK10. My clients are a young professional couple in their 40s.  My brief was to re-design their living area adding colour in the curtains and adding a high pile rug whilst making the room a place to relax in and watch films but to remain light and airy.   The space is a multi function room, and also needed to house both the existing home office desk and a large dining table.

With a 5 foot wide window, the curtains will take up most of the clients budget for this room, so we started with looking through a selection of colourful fabrics, until we decided on a warm, rich, textured velvet fabric by Clarke and Clarke, in Terracotta and Olive.  We doubled its fullness to give a look of luxury and hang beautifully from the newly installed extra long Neo premium black nickle curtain pole.  Stunning finials placed on each end of the pole which now runs the full length of the wall to allow for stack back to the sides of the windows, allowing lots of light to enter when the curtains are open.

We added a simple coving around the ceiling, and covered a wall which will sit behind the TV in a gold/taupe shimmering textured wallpaper by Albany Italia giving the room depth, warmth and a touch of glamour.   The remaining walls were all painted in a soft tan colour, and a large glossy canvas was hung behind the dining table to reflect light back into the room.

A selection of soft textured cushions in warm terracotta, green striped and gold/taupe were placed on the existing brown leather sofas. Stylish lamps were added to the room and the family photos and portrait pictures which were once dotted around the room were gathered together and hung in a gallery style beside the work station (not shown).  A large glass orange fruit bowl was placed in the centre of the existing dining table, and a sumptuous rug matching the green stripe in the curtains and cushions was laid in the lounge area.  The room was redressed with the clients side tables and favourite items.
